Horse & Farrier featured in Countryside Magazine

We're proud to be featured in the November 2019 issue of the National Farmers Union magazine Countryside. The Horse & Farrier is the featured pub in Lorna Maybery's article Eat, Sleep, Walk... Cumbria  in which she "heads to the hills... and the lakes... in search of iconic Cumbrian food and drink". You can read the fantastic review she gave us below:

"If you’re looking for a pub with a really friendly welcome, chatty staff, an historic interior and great food, then the Horse and Farrier at Threlkeld is just the ticket. It sits just off the A66 in the shadow of spectacular Blencathera, one of the most northerly hills in the Lake District, so big tick then for stunning scenery too, especially if you dine al fresco in the pub’s garden.

We were greeted by waiter Keith, who looked rather dapper in his smart waistcoat and tie. His friendly welcome put us at ease and he regaled us with some of the history of the pub and how a recent refurbishment has seen the dining area extended into the building next door and new rooms added to the accommodation upstairs.

He left us with the extensive menu and we had a few moments of indecision as every dish looked too mouthwatering. In the end we selected the Piri Piri Tiger Prawn and Chorizo Skewes and Breaded Garlic Mushrooms to start, followed by the Jennings Ale Pie and the Traditional Cumberland Sausage The rich thick gravy and tender chunks of braised steak were quite excellent and the single curl sausage with onion mash and Jennings ale gravy also got a big thumbs-up. The ingredients are seasonal and locally sourced and the portion sizes are generous, making & excellent value for money.

And, if you are so full you can’t move, then you can stay the night in one of the newly decorated charming rooms and suites, and then enjoy a full English in the morning!"

If you'd like to experience the "charming rooms and suites" or "mouthwatering" food why not book a room or a table today?
