Six Fell Walks from the Horse & Farrier, Threlkeld... by A. Walker
The Horse & Farrier at Threlkeld is the perfect place to start or end your walk. Why not make use of these suggested fell walks and use maps and guides from the pub? These walks are for beginners and Ancient Britons. They are designed with the three most important factors in mountaineering in mind:
Equipment: Feet. Hill Boots. Map & Compass (Map & Compass are required even if one has GPS and mobile phone). In winter take a survival bag. Timing the walk - a suggestion: Use BARFORD FORMULA
Experience will enable the individual to assess their own performance. Barford is a sound basis to begin with. Hours of daylight - note sunset time. In winter it can be as early as 15.30 hrs. Take a torch. Please leave word where you are going. In case of emergency it helps both you and the volunteer mountain rescue teams. All maps will be supplied by the Horse & Farrier a Deposit of 10.00 will be required and returned on receipt of maps being returned a £3.00 contribution to Lake District Mountain Rescue will be requested for these walks All of the walks have been mapped and plotted by Mr Green of Penrith. We are indebted to him for his knowledge and reproduce these walks with much gratitude for his time and experience. |
